EPISODE 6: THE CHOSEN ONE

This 13-part documentary series explores the mystical and metaphysical influences behind historical Indigenous heroes and villains that shaped the Canadian West. In episode 6, “The Chosen One,” Riel unites his people in an armed resistance movement against the Canadian government.

Berkley Brady is a Métis writer, director and producer based out of Treaty 7 territory, in Calgary, Alberta. She holds an MFA in Film from Columbia University in New York City, with a concentration in Directing.

Agam Darshi is an international award winning actress and filmmaker, having worked alongside Oscar nominated director Deepa Mehta, and Emmy winner Ava Duvernay.

I REMEMBER FOOTSTEPS IN THE SNOW

A mother and a daughter re-address events from their past that have caused a disconnect in their present relationship through an honest, transparent conversation that reveals a connection between their past and their present traumas.

Cazhhmere is an international award-winning director. After a 17 year career in music videos, directing for artists ranging from Kardinal Offishall to the Backstreet Boys, she teamed up with the CBC to direct the documentary Deeply Rooted. She’s currently gearing up for pre-production on her feature film debut.

At the height of redlining in 1968, a black couple and a white couple try to buy the same suburban house in New Jersey.

Shawn Gerrard is a filmmaker from Toronto and alumnus of York University’s film program as well as the TIFF Filmmaker Lab. Shawn has written and directed many short films, one feature film, as well as episodic television.

On the night of their teenagers’ prom, three overprotective fathers find a positive pregnancy test and go on a mission to find out which one of their teens is pregnant before the end of the night.

From being selected for Playback’s 10 to Watch 2021 to directing Simu Liu in commercials, Sam MacAdam is an award-winning Guyanese-Canadian filmmaker, with a focus on comedy and horror.

In this psychological thriller, a Syrian refugee family faces an unexpected manifestation of their grief, forcing each of them to confront a recent loss in ways they could not fathom.

Reem Morsi is an award winning, Egyptian/Canadian Filmmaker, based in Toronto, with a passion for films that challenge existing narratives especially through genre. Her first feature film, Hysteria, is currently in post-production and her second feature screened at TIFF Selects 2021.

RANDALL OKITA

After the death of a friend, a teen thief fantasizes about getting out of town. When his closest friend is victimized by violence, he is forced to choose between fighting back and becoming what he fears, or leaving behind everyone and everything he knows.

Randall Okita is a Japanese Canadian artist and filmmaker known for creating work that involves rich visual language and innovative approaches to story. His work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions, awarded internationally, and screened around the world.

A dark comedy (and cautionary tale) about a painter struggling for inspiration who finds an unexpected muse when he becomes the caregiver to a seemingly docile art student with a rare sleepwalking condition…

Boris Rodriguez is a Montreal-based award-winning writer-director of Mexican and Cuban descent. Boris’ feature debut, Eddie the Sleepwalking Cannibal, was selected for prominent festivals including Tribeca, and garnered several awards including the coveted Mélies d’Argent award for Best Feature.

After being sent to a group home by her mother, Emilie wants to flee her new reality. In her attempt to get back to her mother she meets and gets influenced by the people around her. Learning an instrument becomes a positive fix-point in her tumultuous situation.

Neegan Trudel is a director of Wendat and Quebecker origin. After embarking on a 3-year journey around the world, he decided to specialize himself in the industry of special effects and 3D animation.

Justin Wu is a Chinese Canadian Toronto based Director & Photographer. His directorial debut was on CBC’s Kim’s Convenience, for which he was nominated for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Comedy Series by the Director’s Guild of Canada in 2021.
