Life and Death Decisions is a three-part series by Global News health reporter Heather Yourex, photographer Jerry Favero and editor Leslie Wells who worked as a team alongside visual journalist Cody Coates to develop a series that captured the poignant stories of three Canadians who each chose to die in their own way. It aired just as the federal government prepared for new right-to-die legislation following the historic Supreme Court ruling which struck down the country’s law against physician-assisted death. The story’s emotional impact resonated with viewers accessing the story both in our newscasts and online with more than 12,000 views and shares from viewers as far away as the UK and South Africa.
