Our Talent Development Programs provide industry access and professional development opportunities for creatives across Canadian screen sectors. Aimed at building a more equitable and diverse industry, we are committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and nurturing talent through professional training, grants, and guidance.
All programs are offered virtually and there are no fees to apply or participate. More info about each program can be found in the descriptions below.
Executive Residency Program
The Executive Residency Program is a Canadian Academy initiative dedicated to providing industry access for mid-career professionals who identify as Black, Indigenous, or persons of colour. It matches high-level executives (such as VPs, Executive Producers, Development/Production Executives) with emerging leaders to develop their creative, business, and leadership skills, and make meaningful connections in the industry.
The Executive Residency Program is presented by our Supporting Partner Telefilm Canada; Collaborative Partners Bell Media, Cineplex, and Boat Rocker; and Community Partner BIPOC TV & Film.
This is a bilingual program: upon request, translation to French will be offered whenever possible, with placements made in English-dominant environments.

Women in Post
The Women in Post program provides higher-level industry access and professional development for emerging to mid-level women-identifying and non-binary creatives working in all areas of post production. Programming includes strategic learning modules, creative and technical skills building, and hands-on mentorship at a post production company and/or shadowing a post production-related role.
The Women in Post program is presented by Netflix and supported by RBC Foundation and the City of Toronto, alongside industry partners Noodle Factory Post and SPINVFX, and community partners the Canadian Cinema Editors, Vancouver Post Alliance, and WIFT-AT.
This is a bilingual program: upon request, translation to French will be offered whenever possible, and placements will be made in both English and French environments, based on availability, and the preferences of each participant.

WBD Access x Canadian Academy Directors Program
The WBD Access x Canadian Academy Directors Program is a talent roster initiative focused on experienced Canadian directors from underrepresented communities. This initiative is for those individuals who have been proactively taking steps in their career to direct episodic television series in any genre. Participants will gain unprecedented connections to and industry knowledge from Warner Bros. Discovery executives and creators.
This program is a multi-year initiative supported by Warner Bros. Discovery and administered by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
This is a bilingual program: upon request, translation to French will be offered whenever possible, with placements made in English-dominant environments.

WBD Access x Canadian Academy Writers Program
The WBD Access x Canadian Academy Writers Program is a professional development initiative focused on experienced Canadian writers from underrepresented communities. This program supports individuals seeking to advance their careers in episodic television through the development of a specific project, mentorship and community-building opportunities, and connections to and industry knowledge from Warner Bros. Discovery executives and creators.
This program is a multi-year initiative supported by Warner Bros. Discovery and administered by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, in collaboration with Telefilm Canada.
This is a bilingual program: scripts can be developed in English or French, and upon request, translation to French will be offered whenever possible.

MVP Project
The Music Video Production (MVP) Project, with support from the RBC Foundation, was established to promote the intersection of emerging Canadian Recording Artists and Filmmakers through Music Video Production Grants valued between $5,000 and $15,000.
The MVP Project, a joint RBCxMusic & Prism Prize initiative, is committed to supporting emerging artists. The MVP Project is administered by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
This is a bilingual grant program that supports both English and French music video projects.

Misdirect: The Nick Nemeroff Comedy Grant
Misdirect: The Nick Nemeroff Comedy Grant, is a new grant administered by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television that will see a Canadian comedian awarded $10,000.00 cash, meant to be put towards their next television special, album, or other related comedy initiative.
The project will prioritize emerging comedians who worked within the tradition of the late Nick Nemeroff, a young comedian who used misdirection, word play, and other techniques to push the boundaries of comedy.

MOOSE KNUCKLES HEATMAKERS X PRISM PRIZE music video production grant
The Moose Knuckles Heatmakers x Prism Prize Music Video Production Grant is a production support initiative launched to encourage high-quality music video content from the Canadian hip-hop community, produced by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.

Academy Talks
Academy Talks events are designed for film, television, and digital media professionals looking to engage with contemporary creatives and ideas and are open to participation by individuals with a range of experience. Events are open to the public and available digitally from anywhere, with tickets available for purchase online.

Making the Case for Canadian Film
In May and June 2021, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television hosted a symposium dedicated to discussing and debating the future of feature filmmaking and distribution in Canada. Distinguished panelists and experts from across the sector explored domestic and international approaches to new distribution mechanisms and discussed the challenges and strategies for Canadian film to thrive alongside the rise of streaming platforms.

Directors Program for Women
The Canadian Academy Directors Program for Women bolsters the professional development of Canadian directors by providing hands-on experience in a wide range of activities, including an exclusive professional development symposium, a six-part online learning module, and curated on-set director observer placements with established production companies and high-profile directors.
The Canadian Academy Directors Program for Women is presented with the generous support of Netflix, Pinewood Toronto Studios, Canada Media Fund, RBC Emerging Artists Project, Company 3, William F. White International Inc., and the Toronto International Film Festival.

Academy Deep Dive: Global Strategies Conference
The Academy Deep Dive: Global Strategies Conference, presented by Netflix, was a two-day in-person event in Toronto, which took place on October 28th and 29th, 2022. It consisted of six producer-focused sessions, and was open to a curated audience of 21 attendees.
Through a series of interactive discussions, emerging and mid-level producers and filmmakers were invited to learn how to expand their creative and business strategies, to reflect a more global approach and perspective. Guest speakers shared insight into how filmmakers can position themselves and their content for broader appeal in the international streaming marketplace.
