Manitoba brought in a new “truth in advertising law” that was supposed to protect car buyers. Simply put: the price you see should be the price you pay… no hidden fees. But a hidden camera investigation revealed extra fees were routinely tacked on to the final sale price and consumers were being gouged. Katie Nicholson and the CBC I-Team broke this story and then doggedly followed it through as car dealerships were forced to refund thousands of dollars in extra fees they had taken from customers. Nearly a year later, consumers are still getting their money back and consumer complaint investigations are ongoing.
